Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) - or "NOAA Research" - provides the research foundation for understanding the complex systems that support our planet. Working in partnership with other organizational units of the NOAA, a bureau of the Department of Commerce, NOAA Research enables better forecasts, earlier warnings for natural disasters, and a greater understanding of the Earth. MOSAiC. Embark on the largest polar expedition in history: in September , the German research icebreaker Polarstern has set sail from Tromsø, Norway, to spend a year drifting through the Arctic Ocean - trapped in ice.

Therefore, in response to a need for improved UV measurements in the Arctic and with support from the NOAA Arctic Research Initiative (ARI), three locations in Alaska were identified for deployment of portable, yet reliable, and inexpensive instruments to measure the UV environment in Alaska.   Climate Competitive Research: Reduces funding by more than one-third for Climate Competitive Research, which is a source of extramural support for universities and NOAA’s Cooperative Institutes. Arctic research: Eliminates $6 million in support for Arctic research, including sea ice modeling and ecosystem and fisheries vulnerabilities.

Summer Series about the Arctic Research Program. 15 December NOAA's Arctic Report Card: Visual highlights. A new NOAA-sponsored report shows that unprecedented warming air temperature in triggered massive declines in sea ice and snow cover across the Arctic, and brought a record-breaking delay to fall sea ice freeze up. Links to other NOAA Web sites regarding polar research, snow and ice analysis and forecasting, and data management. Polar Research NOAA Arctic Research Office (ARO) & Theme Page: Provides a wealth of well-organized information for the general public, including Ask an Expert essays on the addition, the Arctic Theme Page provides access to widely distributed arctic data and .

NOAA is responsible for a research program called the Arctic Research Initiative (ARI), which is dedicated to understanding issues related to the health of the Western Arctic and the Bering Sea ecosystem, focusing on both natural variability in and anthropogenic influences on the region.

At the request of NOAA's Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), on Jthe Polar Research Board (PRB) conducted a workshop to bring together knowledgeable people whose views about the need for research on Arctic contamination issues would NOAAs Arctic Research Initiative book valuable to NOAA as the agency plans for the second phase of its Arctic Research Initiative (ARI).

COVID Resources. Reliable information about the coronavirus (COVID) is available from the World Health Organization (current situation, international travel).Numerous and frequently-updated resource results are available from this ’s WebJunction has pulled together information and resources to assist library staff as they consider how to handle coronavirus.

The NOAA Arctic Research Initiative (ARI) focuses on research in natural variability of and anthropogenic influences of the Western Arctic/Bering Sea ecosystem, including the importance of fisheries and marine mammals, the presence of coastal communities, the cultural and economic value of this area, and the need to address issues of sustainable use of resources.

We have been doing research in the Arctic for a long time, and three of the programs that were funded under the Arctic Research Initiative involve long-term trends in arctic haze, measurements of UV radiation in the Arctic, and we do actually have a program aimed at climate change in the Arctic.

Today marks the official launch of Old Weather: Whaling, a citizen science research initiative that will help scientists analyze historical data from whaling logbooks, in an effort to improve our understanding of long-term climate variability and weather patterns from the 19 th century through today.

Executive Summary of the NOAA's Arctic Vision and Strategy, released February The Arctic has profound significance for climate and functioning of ecosystems around the globe. The region is particularly vulnerable and prone to rapid change. Increasing air and ocean temperatures, thawing permafrost, loss of sea ice, and shifts in ecosystems are evidence of widespread and.

The Arctic Research Program partners with other national and international institutions to facilitate the development of a comprehensive Arctic Observing Network.

Because the Arctic region is a complex system involving the atmosphere, ocean, ice, and land across international boundaries, these partnerships are essential for gathering. The SEARCH Sea Ice Action Team partnered with the Bering Sea Elders Group (BSEG) by hosting a two-day workshop with elders from the Bering Sea region in September to develop the first Indigenous community contribution to the NOAA Arctic Report Card.A short video, which will ultimately be part of a larger video series called "After the Ice", showcases this workshop and some of its.
